Temperature sensors and transmitters function as an early warning signal that means the machine needs a repair. Both temperature sensors and temperature transmitters are important to any manufacturer, no matter how big or how small. By working together to make sure a machine is working properly at a consistent temperature, these two pieces of equipment help keep machinery running, …

Sender Testing: Senders can be tested with an OHM meter that measures from 10 to 2,000 OHMs. Connect the positive lead from the tester to the sender terminal and the negative lead to a good ground. The following readings will occur if the sender is operating properly: Temperature Sender: Room Temp (Sender Dependent) 300 – 1000 Ohms (•)
· Check the connection or replace the sender in the intake above the alternator. That is for the gauge. The differance between the two is, the one in the intake controls the coolant gauge and the sensor at the thermostat housing provides information to the cars ecm to control fuel trim.
i thought i would change temperature sender mmmm..theres a sender/sensor in the thermostat housing . another coolant sensor to the left of this and another sensor on top of the engine that says its to do with the ecu . confused now which one will actually read with the temp guage? or is it a case of disconnect each one and see what does it
The temperature sensor is generally an RTD, Thermistor or Thermocouple sensor (as mentioned above), which will interface with a DCS, PLC, data logger or hardware display. The role of the temperature transmitter is to isolate the signal of the temperature, to filter any EMC noise and to amplify and convert the temperature sensor …

· 1. Yes. An automotive temperature or oil pressure sender is both. 2. It sends a binary code but it may include communication protocol bits such as with I2C. 3. No. Analogue sensors can (and often do) have active circuitry then sends an analogue voltage or current proportional to the sensed value.
Contact Type Temperature Sensors: There are a few temperature meters that measure the degree of hotness or coolness in an object by being in direct contact with it. Such temperature sensors fall under the category contact-type. They can be used to detect solids, liquids or gases over a wide range of temperatures. Non-Contact Type Temperature Sensors: These types of temperature meters are not ...

· hey all, thanks in advance for replies. can’t tell which one of these is my ‘ect sensor sending unit’. note that I am not referring to the temperature switch on the thermostat housing. my Chilton says I can test the sensor by disconnecting the cap to the sending unit, grounding it with a test lead, this should make the dash temp gauge operate.

· I'm not sure on the MK2 white sensor being 0-180 or 0-150, i was pretty sure it was 0-180 and worked with vw 180 degree vdo oil gauges as well as the MFA. the MK3 MFA sensor is a different part number, I'm not sure if that means the MK2/3 senders are incompatible of if vw jhust switched to fitting a 0-150 sender for the MFA. I will look thru my random spares boxes later to see if i have any ...
· ok, doing the vortec swap and have a question. I had the old 2f in the truck with the stock temp sensor running the dash gauge. Well, to run the dash gauge now I have a few options... Tee into the vortec temp sender, or use the extra hole in the back right vortec head that leads into a water...
Coolant temperature sensors are notoriously reliable because they have just one part inside. That's a "thermistor", meaning temperature-dependent resistor. The one glaring exception was Ford had a huge failure rate in the early to mid 1990's, but that was with their two-wire sensors for the engine computers, not for the dash gauges. Failures of all temperature sensors is much more likely to be ...
Temperature Sensor Types 1. Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor A thermistor is a thermally sensitive resistor that exhibits a continuous, small, incremental change in resistance correlated to variations in temperature. An NTC thermistor provides higher resistance at low temperatures. As temperature increases, the resistance drops incrementally, according to its R-T table.
